Three of Johannes Stötter's most celebrated underwater illusions brought together in one video. Each piece transforms the human body into a marine creature — a whale, an angelfish, and a sea turtle — through precise bodypainting, choreography, and a carefully constructed visual system that creates the illusion of movement beneath water.
The sea turtle sequence, developed in 2019, is among Stötter's most technically refined works. A rolling table, a split background, and a single precisely timed arm movement create the impression of a turtle gliding through open water — a result of weeks of preparation, painting, and four hours of shooting to capture the exact rhythm he envisioned.
