This Guitar Trick Sounds Like Magic ✨

🎸 This is one of my favorite delay tricks!

Set your delay time to 300 milliseconds, then adjust the mix/level so the delayed note is about the same volume as your original guitar signal (or experiment to taste). In this video, I’ve got the delay set so the echo “slaps back” at roughly the same volume as the note I’m playing.

From there, you can use it a couple of different ways:

• Palm-muted, staccato arpeggios create a really cool cascading effect, similar to sounds you’ll hear in Paul Gilbert’s “Echo Song.”

• Volume swells turn your guitar into an expressive violin-like instrument. This technique has been used in different ways by players like Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Nuno Bettencourt, and many other great players.

Try experimenting with different picking attacks, palm muting, and mix levels to make the effect your own.

Follow for more practical guitar tips focused on applying techniques, not just memorizing scales and licks.
