She was trapped inside her own home… and scared for her life.
We got a message about an elderly woman named Sandy in Benton Harbor, and nothing could have prepared us for what we were about to walk into. Her backyard wasn’t just overgrown—it had been completely taken over. Sandy tried to help one person in need… and it turned into 10–15 people living on her property. They were running electricity from her home, using heaters, leaving trash everywhere, and even breaking into her house through the windows. She couldn’t control it anymore… and she was scared. Even after being removed, they kept coming back. Imagine being older, alone, and feeling like you can’t even relax in your own home… That’s where we stepped in. We cleared out the entire property, removed dangerous waste, tore down the structures they were living in, and did everything we could to help her feel safe again. But this goes way beyond just cleaning up a yard. Sandy is behind on bills, struggling with basic needs, and still dealing with the aftermath of everything that happened.
