Before Spotify playlists and Bluetooth speakers, there was my mom... and a stack of Elvis Presley 45s in our tiny trailer.
Those records got a workout.
I especially loved hearing the background singers on Suspicious Minds and Blue Christmas. I didn't know it then, but those voices were quietly shaping the way I would hear music for the rest of my life.
Fast-forward a few decades, and while writing songs for The Things We Leave Behind, I found myself borrowing a little of that magic.
Here's a reel of me singing part of the song. Apparently, after hearing Elvis on repeat for years, some of it finally rubbed off. (The sideburns never showed up, though.)
