AUSTRALIA'S HAPPIEST STATE/TERRITORY
A new report has found which Aussie state or territory is the happiest. How happy are you? That's a question this study by Flinders University looked into. The study surveyed 15,000 Aussies and found which states and territories are the nation's happiest and unhappiest. At the top of the list was the NT, with 75.3% of people describing themselves as happy. The unhappiest? It's actually Victoria, with 65.9%. The survey also looked into some of the main concerns Aussies had, with the cost of living and housing topping the list, and across the board, less than half said they were optimistic about the future of their region.
AMAZON ACCC CASE
Amazon is facing a fresh legal battle against Australia's consumer watchdog, the ACCC. A lawsuit, launched by the ACCC yesterday, alleges that 5 of Amazon's contract terms for its Prime streaming service are unfair, including one which allowed the streaming giant to introduce ads in July 2024 and required subscribers to pay an extra $2.99 per month to get rid of them again. The ACCC reckons it left users with no choice but to pay more to maintain the service they signed up for in the first place and says it'll be seeking compensation for consumers, along with penalties for the company. Amazon says that they've cooperated with the ACCC throughout its investigation and will remain focused on providing the best experience they can to Aussies.
TOWN DOCUMENTARY
Now, we're going to meet some students from a small town in Queensland who have taken part in a special documentary. If you look at a map of Australia, then zoom into Queensland, you'll find a historic coastal town called Agnes Water. A group of locals decided to capture what it's like to live there in 2026 as a sort of time capsule, and these students were all asked to take part. Fewer than 3,000 people live in Agnes, which these kids say is partly what makes this place feel so special. The doco should be ready to screen in December, and these guys are pretty excited about it.
SWITZERLAND'S YODELLING FESTIVAL
First up, to the old tradition of yodelling. This is Switzerland's national yodelling festival, which has been running since 1924, and it really does take over the country, from yodelling at dinner to yodelling in fountains to beat the heat.
DINOSAUR DISCOVERY
Now to a dinosaur bone that has spent the past 40 years forgotten in a drawer. Yep, this fossil was found in 1985 but was stored away after the team that found it wasn't sure what it was. Now, palaeontologists have found out that it belongs to a Titanosaur and is the first dinosaur bone ever found in Antarctica!
STRAWBERRY MOON
Finally, there was a strawberry moon, which delighted a lot of sky gazers around the world last night. While it doesn't look much like a strawberry in shape or colour, the name comes from North American Indigenous peoples, who would use the moon to tell when it was time to harvest the strawberries!
