The 9/11 Helicopter at Celebrate Freedom Foundation | Curiosity Trek!

South Carolina ETV Video 18 days ago

Description

The Celebrate Freedom Foundation in Columbia, South Carolina has an impressive collection of aircraft, but one particular helicopter, a Bell UH-1H "Huey" has an incredible story to tell.

Their Huey flew operations at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. when it was attacked on September 11, 2001- ferrying supplies, reporters, and investigators. Afterwards, it served as a "test bed" helicopter, undergoing many modifications for different types of missions. When she was retired from active service, this Huey was thought to never fly again. Years later, she was acquired by the Celebrate Freedom Foundation. With over six years of dedication, fundraising, and hard work, she has been restored back to flight status. A remarkable piece of operational American history!

The Celebrate Freedom Foundation does more than restore aircraft, however. It is an educational organization which travels all over the southeastern United States to inspire students to pursue career paths in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

A first for this series, three special guests join host Andrew to fly into the history of their Huey helicopter, as well as the background and mission of the Celebrate Freedom Foundation: Operations Manager Keith "Sully" Sullivan, Executive Vice President Lori Brady, and President Jack Lovelady.
