My 2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance started making a small clicking noise while driving, so I decided to pull over into a QuikTrip gas station to inspect it.
As I pulled in, the noise suddenly became much worse and started grinding.
After checking the rear left wheel area, I found grease sprayed all over the inside of the wheel — a major sign that the rear CV axle failed and split open.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER:
Driving with a failing CV axle is dangerous and not recommended. The safest option is always to tow the vehicle and repair it properly.
In my case, because this is a dual motor AWD Tesla, I carefully drove it home at my own risk using the front motors.
