It’s April 20th and we are still iced in at our off-grid island cabin in Ontario, Canada. The lake is caught in that difficult shoulder season where the ice is no longer safe enough for normal travel, but there is still too much of it to get around by boat.
Our fan boat still isn’t running, and without it, we can’t get off the island to pick up the parts we need. With our neighbor Dan away from the lake this week as well, we hunker down and enjoy the solitude and silence of this little oasis cut off from the world.
But with warmer weather in the forecast, spring is finally starting to arrive. The snow is melting, the birds are returning, and patches of open water are appearing along the shore. So we decide to give Mother Nature a hand and see if we can launch a boat into the small patch of water near the boathouse.
Join us for another week of off-grid cabin life as we wait for the big spring melt, work to break a path through the ice, and get one step closer to heading out to be with Caroline and Matt.
