St. Odulph of Utrecht was a noble-born priest whose life became a model of perseverance, humility, missionary zeal, and heroic charity. In this episode from The Lives of the Saints by Fr. Alban Butler, we learn how St. Odulph assisted St. Frederick of Utrecht in evangelizing and reforming the fierce Frisian people through tireless preaching, prayer, fasting, and unwavering love for souls.
Despite constant hardships and exhausting apostolic labors, St. Odulph never relaxed his discipline. As he grew older, his prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and zeal only increased. Even on his deathbed he encouraged his fellow canons to persevere in holiness and promised to remember them before God after his passing.
His life reminds us that sanctity is found not merely in great deeds, but in faithful perseverance until the very end.
