Description

The battle between Paraguay and France continues long after the final whistle as the two-time World Cup winners train in their Waltham, Massachusetts base trying to look ahead to their quarter-final clash with Morocco

Kylian Mbappé, who converted from the spot the penalty that gave les Bleus the win, has become the target of racist abuse from a Paraguayan senator.

Senator Celeste Amarilla took to social media to launch a barrage of insults directed at the Real Madrid and France star.

"Bruto didn’t even learn to write. Instead of his mother's milk he sucked coconuts and the most educated thing he ever heard were chimpanzees," Amarilla wrote.

“Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position,” Mbappé responded.

“You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition.

Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country.

I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.”

The French Football Federation (FFF) issued a firm statement condemning the remarks as “utterly abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The federation announced it is filing a complaint with the public prosecutor’s office to pursue judicial action.

French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari also expressed outrage, describing the comments as “aberrant, unworthy and all the more unacceptable” coming from an elected official.
