Global smartphone shipments fell 11% YoY in Q2 2026, marking the worst second quarter since 2013, mainly due to the global memory chip shortage that has increased phone prices and weakened demand, especially in the budget segment. Samsung retained the top spot with 24% market share, followed by Apple (20%), Xiaomi (12%), OPPO (11%), and vivo (8%). Apple was one of the few brands to grow, posting 3% YoY shipment growth despite the market downturn. Counterpoint warns that the smartphone market could remain under pressure until memory supply improves, with India facing an even tougher outlook as higher DRAM and NAND prices hit its price-sensitive market. After a 4.1% decline in Q1, India's Q2 shipments are expected to fall 16–19%, while Samsung and Apple continue gaining market share.
