Above the waterline, Sméagol and Déagol drift upon their small boat, caught in the ease of companionship and the simple pleasure of the day’s catch. Beneath them, the unseen story unfolds. A great fish strains against the line, its motion drawing the eye downward through the clear acrylic surface that marks the river’s skin.
