El Lorito del Subandean Parakeet: 5 años de búsqueda, una experiencia con sorpresas y desafíos.
Las dos subespecies de cotorra subandina (eisenmanni y subandina) son consideradas especies distintas por BirdLife International. La subespecie eisenmanni se limita al sur de Panamá, mientras subandina (también conocida como cotorra del Sinú) habitaba el noroeste de Colombia, en el Valle del Sinú (Córdoba). La subespecie subandina es una de las 25 especies perdidas más buscadas según el proyecto Search for Lost Birds. A pesar de las extensas búsquedas, no se han confirmado avistamientos de esta cotorra desde 1949, y se estima que, si bien no está extinta, probablemente no existan más de 50 individuos. Sin embargo, en los últimos años, dos lugareños lograron describir con precisión las características de la subandina, y las expediciones han descubierto prometedoras zonas de hábitats boscosos y otras especies perdidas hace mucho tiempo, lo que ha renovado la esperanza de encontrar a este singular y hermoso loro.

The two subspecies of Subandean parrot (eisenmanni and subandina) are considered distinct species by BirdLife International. The eisenmanni subspecies is restricted to southern Panama, while the subandina (also known as the Sinú Parakeet) once inhabited northwestern Colombia, in the Sinú Valley (Córdoba). The subandina subspecies is one of the 25 most sought-after lost species according to the Search for Lost Birds project. Despite extensive searches, no sightings of this parrot have been confirmed since 1949, and it is estimated that, while not extinct, there are probably no more than 50 individuals remaining. In recent years, two locals managed to accurately describe the characteristics of the subandina, and expeditions have discovered promising areas of forested habitat and other long-lost species, renewing hopes of finding this unique and beautiful parrot.
