Protecting what connects us all, the #ocean

UN Environment Programme Video 1 months ago

Description

The ocean is our planet’s largest life system. It drives weather, feeds millions, powers trade, and sustains economies across the globe. But pollution, climate change, over-fishing and habitat loss are placing unprecedented pressure on our shared seas. For over fifty years, the Regional Seas Programme, supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), has brought nations together to manage and protect marine and coastal environments through cooperation, science-based policy and regional action. Today, 18 regional conventions and action plans unite more than 146 countries to safeguard fisheries, protect coastal communities, strengthen economies and build resilience against climate and environmental threats. From the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to the BBNJ Agreement, this programme connects national priorities to global commitments, turning international cooperation into practical results.
