For folks of a certain generation, we remember seeing TV distributor logos at the beginning of some of our favorite cartoons be it AAP, NTA or UM&M TV Corp. These titles would obscure references to the original studios which distributed these films to theaters.
Here I tried my hand at recreating an Associated Artists Productions (AAP) copy of "Popeye The Sailor Meets Sindbad The Sailor" utilizing two sources:
- A clean AAP print of "Ancient Fistory"
- The restored "Popeye The Sailor Meets Sindbad The Sailor"
I'm pleased with the beginning but the ending needs work, but I think this is as close to a restored AAP print of "Popeye Meets Sindbad" that we'll ever likely see.
Incidentally, I posted about this much earlier but these AAP titles, crediting Famous Studios for the work of the Fleischer Studios, got AAP and Paramount in hot water with Max Fleischer.
This is by no means the definitive version of this film, but a fun look back at the TV distribution days.
