Pediatric surgery cases have doubled since Golisano first opened its doors in 2017. “It was really a no brainer that we needed a center to do outpatient surgery for kids,” said Dr. Emad Salman, Chief Physician Executive, Golisano Children's Hospital.
The first floor of the new 60,000 square foot Pediatric Surgery Center will include 4 operating rooms and two endoscopy suites. “We expect at least 3800 cases a year to be done here. That will free up the space at Healthpark for us to do more complex pediatric cases, from spine surgeries to other complex surgeries, as well as obviously open services for our adult colleagues at Health Park, with whom we share the operating rooms,” said Dr. Salman.
Beyond surgery, the facility will help support Lee Health’s growing residency program. “It's also going to house our family medicine residency clinic. That's going to move over from Lee Memorial, and they're going to have the entire second floor, 33 residents,” said Chief Operating Officer Ben Spence. High-quality care and great access are what we're striving for at Lee Health, and this is another opportunity to do that.”
More than $21 million in community donations is helping turn this vision into reality. “It's because of you that we can make things like this happen for our children and for our future family practice physicians,” said Spence.
This site that’s just steps from Healthpark and Golisano is expected to open in 2028.
