Description
At Pashupatinath, traditional cremation ceremonies take place in the open air along the riverbank, in an area known as the cremation ghats (especially at Arya Ghat and Bhasmeshwar Ghat). Families bring their deceased loved ones to the Bagmati River, wash the body, wrap it in cloths, and perform rites before placing it on a wooden pyre. The eldest son (or another close relative) often lights the funeral pyre, and the body is cremated right there in public view.
