Gomez possessed some of the finest offensive footwork systems in combat sports history, masterfully shifting his alignment to cut deep angles around his targets. By executing a rapid step off-angle to his right, he would pull his opponent completely out of defensive alignment, creating an open lane for his left hook while concealing his right cross in the blind spot.
Proving he was equally lethal moving in either direction, Gomez would also step incredibly deep to his left, sliding his lead foot past the opponent's rear foot before pivoting sharply. This highly technical maneuver instantly squared up the opposition, stripping away their defensive profile and leaving them completely exposed to an unavoidable barrage inside the pocket.
