Description

Nolan Wells' parents are demanding answers. In an exclusive interview with theGrio's Natasha S. Alford, Christine and Elmore Wansley open up about the devastating loss of their 18-year-old son, who never made it home after a July 4th trip to Horn Island, Mississippi, with a group of friends.

The Wansleys reveal they haven't heard from local investigators in nearly a week, reject claims that Nolan "volunteered" to stay behind on the island without his cell phone, and respond directly to a new account from a young man describing himself as Nolan's best friend. "You're telling me that you're lying to me," Elmore says of the friends' story. "I can't believe that, and I won't believe it."
Famed civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is leading an independent investigation alongside the family, explains why his team is interviewing dozens of witnesses, fighting to recover deleted messages from that weekend, and pursuing an independent autopsy. "If the roles were reversed, this investigation would be handled totally different," Crump says.
The parents also share who Nolan really was: a college athlete preparing for the season, a light in every room, and a son whose joy touched everyone he met. "God took his time with that one," his mother says. "You will not find too many Nolan Wells in this world."
