I thought I was just coming to clean up another overgrown yard… but the moment I pulled up, something felt off. The lawn hadn't been touched all year, there was a vehicle sitting there, and you could smell it from the street. My heart started beating hard. I knocked. Nothing. I went to the neighbors. Nothing. No lights on the night before, no movement, dogs barking inside like crazy. I thought about my mom — the same terrible feeling came back. I said, this morning I'm going back to figure out what's going on and clean this place up.
