Canadian leaders are weighing how to respond to President Donald Trump's announcement that he plans to impose a 50% tariff on many goods from Canada starting next month.
The President claims the tariffs are a result of discriminatory treatment of American products - including dairy, motor vehicles, and alcohol - by Canadians.
On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with provincial and territorial premiers to discuss potential responses to the tariffs.
"Canada remains ready to engage with the U.S. for the mutual benefit of both countries," Carney's office said in a statement.
