Description
La Coordinación General de Educación del Museo Nacional del Prado tiene su germen en el Gabinete Pedagógico creado en 1983 con la necesidad de conectar las colecciones con la sociedad. A lo largo de estos más de cuarenta años, y especialmente en este último cuarto de siglo, ha ido creciendo y modificando sus propuestas, actividades y metodologías para adaptarse a los cambios sociales y a las nuevas demandas de los públicos. Es la responsable de difundir un valioso patrimonio que nos pertenece a todos, con acciones que transcienden lo meramente artístico para poner el acento en valores universales como el respeto, la igualdad, la interculturalidad o la sostenibilidad. Consciente de todo ello, la unidad ha avanzado apoyada sobre un gran compromiso con la colectividad, queriendo ser agente dinamizador del cambio hacia el museo del siglo XXI, sin renunciar a la gran herencia y el conocimiento que nos proporcionan unas colecciones únicas que abarcan desde el siglo v a. C. hasta principios del siglo XX.

Mediating and engaging: education at the Museum
The Education Department at the Museo Nacional del Prado has its origins in the Pedagogical Department, created in 1983 in response to the need to connect the collections with society at large. Over these more than forty years and particularly in the last quarter of a century, it has grown and adapted its projects, activities and methodologies to reflect societal changes and the evolving demands of its different publics. The department is responsible for disseminating a priceless heritage that belongs to us all through actions that transcend the purely artistic in order to emphasise universal values such as respect, equality, intercultural understanding and sustainability. With this in mind, the Education Department has evolved on the basis of its firm commitment to the community, aspiring to be a driving force for change towards a twenty-first-century museum without renouncing the great legacy and knowledge offered by the Prado’s unique collections dating from the fifth century BC to the early twentieth century.
