The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday briefed the media on the outcomes of President Droupadi Murmu's visit to Moldova, highlighting the key discussions between the leaders of the two countries.
Briefing the media, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George said the talks underscored the shared commitment of the two democracies to a forward-looking, people-centric and mutually beneficial partnership.
He said that, as a special gesture of friendship, President Murmu presented a bust of Mahatma Gandhi to the President of Moldova. The bust, he added, will stand as an enduring symbol of the universal relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's message.
Earlier, President Murmu received a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace in Chișinău by Moldovan President Maia Sandu. The two leaders held one-on-one and delegation-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
During the visit, President Murmu also paid homage to Stephen the Great and Holy, the revered medieval ruler regarded as the founder and defender of the Moldovan state, by laying a wreath at his monument in the heart of Chișinău.
The visit marks the first-ever visit to Moldova by an Indian President since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992.
