In this video James Burns aka Robinson's Village @robinsonsvillage7599, during a talk for Splice’s appearance at SXSW London, explored Splice Instrument’s amazing capabilities in Ableton Live 12 by using the Craft feature to transform an owl sample into a beautiful synth with the click of a button.
The Craft feature is an AI-powered tool within the Splice INSTRUMENT Plugin that allows producers to import custom or downloaded Splice sample loops and automatically transform them into fully playable virtual instruments and patches.
Boombox FM is a custom instrument made for Splice’s Labs which is housed within Splice INSTRUMENT. This incredible synth plugin is a collaboration with sound designer and electronic artist Robinson’s Village, built around a simple idea taken to its limits. A range of synth pads, keys and sound design patches were fed through an old boombox speaker via a FM receiver, capturing all the grit, distortion and unpredictability of the signal chain. The result is a lo-fi, unstable sound world filled with radio static, degraded tones and fragments of chatter that drift in and out of focus. It’s textured, imperfect and full of character. Perfect for sound designers, experimental producers and anyone looking to push their palette into stranger territory, Boombox FM brings a raw, off-grid energy to your music.
