An Act To Require Annual Registration of Residential Lawn Mowers
Sponsored by: Governor Janet T. Mills
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine:
Sec. 1. Title 29‑A, §2100. Registration of Lawn Mowers
1. Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, all Maine residents must register any lawn mower they own, store, or operate.
2. Annual registration fee: $38.
3. The Secretary of State shall issue a weather‑resistant sticker to be placed visibly on the mower.
4. Operating or possessing an unregistered mower is a civil violation punishable by a fine up to $50.
5. The Secretary of State shall adopt routine technical rules to implement this section.
SUMMARY:
This bill requires all Maine residents to register their lawn mowers annually for $38 and authorizes the Secretary of State to administer the program.
