Hearing Barry Andrews’ trickling Crumar organ figure meshing with Robert Fripp’s rhapsodic guitars, isolated from the accompanying bass and drums parts, makes this much-loved League Of Gentlemen track sound more like a piece of taut minimalism rather than the usual attribution of “a second-division touring new wave instrumental dance band.”
As DGM engineer Alex Mundy rummaged through Reel 5 of the LOG’s session at Arny’s Shack, he discovered a couple of takes from Fripp and blended them into this new and intriguing mix. Admirers of the Dorset guitarist’s prodigious sustain technique will want to listen all the way to the very end.
