Nendrum was first released on my 2017 album Don’t You Know but was only an a'capela track for me to pay homage.
I haven’t performed it in years… until now and this new version that now opens my new project, Kaz Hawkins Hope Experiment, which will officially launch in August 2026 in the Roman Arena of Saintes, France. The Hope Experiment brings together 10 musicians with one intention: to create a safe space within music, a place where we can sit with pain, explore emotion, and leave with hope. This video is just five of us as we are growing every day but when it becomes 10 on stage, it will truly be magical for me to see the song brought to life for such a cause, HOPE!
Nendrum is deeply personal. The birds and bees you hear in the room are not effects. They were recorded at Nendrum, a 10th-century monastic site in Northern Ireland. It is the place I once went to take my own life. When I stood there, I heard life all around me, the wind, the insects, the birds continuing on. That sound stopped me. That day, I made a different choice. I chose yet again to keep fighting.
Now I recreate that moment on stage, not the darkness, but the decision. And I offer it to anyone who might need it. To give hope is my mission in life.
