Description
During the holy month of Shravan, the extraordinary Rudra Shiva sculpture in Chhattisgarh has become a major attraction for devotees, tourists, and history enthusiasts from India and abroad.
Located in Tala village of Bilaspur district, this unique sculpture was surveyed by the Archaeological Survey of India in 1977. Excavations that began in 1984 revealed several important archaeological remains. In 1987, a massive and distinctive sculpture was discovered, which was later named “Rudra Shiva” by experts.
The sculpture is famous for its unusual carvings, including a serpent above Shiva’s head, snake designs on the crown, frogs in the eyes, fish motifs on the moustache, peacocks near the ears, a crab on the chin, Mahakal imagery on the abdomen, female faces on the thighs, and lion figures near the knees.
This rare masterpiece continues to attract thousands of devotees, researchers, and travelers every year, making Tala an important destination for India’s cultural and archaeological heritage.
