For years, this footage sat untouched in my archives.
Filmed back in 2016, this video captures one of the most unique abandoned locations I’ve ever explored — a place built for children, joy, and Christmas traditions… left behind and forgotten.
This is Santa’s Land USA, located in Putney.
The park first opened in 1957, during the golden age of roadside America, when families would travel by car and stop at small attractions just to experience something magical. For decades, Santa’s Land was a whimsical Christmas park filled with tradition and childhood memories for families across New England.
As time passed, travel changed. Roadside attractions faded. The park went through multiple owners and slowly declined, eventually closing around 2011. What followed was the darkest chapter in its history — severe neglect, including the discovery of 16 dead deer on the property. A place built for joy became a symbol of abandonment.
When I explored it, everything felt frozen in time.
Drawings were still on the walls.
Decorations were still standing.
Santa’s house was still there — silent.
Years later, while revisiting this footage, I realized something I didn’t understand back then. This was filmed in 4K, S-Log3, at a time when I didn’t know how to color grade, didn’t upload in 4K, and only edited videos to 10 minutes. With nearly a decade of experience now, I saw the opportunity to tell this story properly.
That’s why this video is a remaster.
In 2017, the story took a hopeful turn. The park was purchased by David Haversat, who chose to restore and revitalize Santa’s Land instead of letting it disappear. Today, it operates seasonally once again and stands as one of the most amazing Christmas parks in the world — and one of the last true pieces of classic Christmas roadside America.
