Touring Hillview Cove, an award-winning 7,200-square-foot contemporary desert modern masterpiece nestled at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains in Palm Springs, California.

Designed by lead architect Sean Lockyer of Studio AR&D Architects, in collaboration with interior designer Sam Cardella and the late landscape designer Marcello Villano, this home is far more than a luxury residence—it was designed specifically as a sensory healing sanctuary to foster mindfulness and emotional grounding.

Rather than relying on sterile white drywall, the home is built using massive board-formed recycled concrete walls, seamless poured-in-place terrazzo floors, and dramatic, hand-charred Douglas fir ceilings treated with the traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method. The result is a highly tactile, acoustically dampened environment that feels intimate and cozy despite its sprawling scale.

In this video, we explore how the home’s low-slung, continuous roofline respects neighbor views while creating cozy horizontal volumes inside. We’ll look at the exquisite integration of the owners’ extensive art collection—featuring curated works by Ko Kirk Yamahira, Ali Silverstein, and Joanna Poag—and walk out onto the pool terrace to experience the breathtaking 4-sided zero-edge black granite pool, which acts as a literal "black mirror" reflecting the desert sky.
