Today Epic Eric and I hit the water and started shallow, which turned out to be a really fun and unique bite. We were able to catch a bunch of fish using some baits that you don’t see every day, and one in particular REALLY stood out.
The big player today was the Z-Man Fuzzy Nugget in both black and green pumpkin. We rigged it with a split ring setup, which gave it an incredibly unique action and the fish absolutely crushed it. We actually filmed a very detailed breakdown video explaining exactly how we rigged and fished this bait, so stay tuned because that full in-depth video will be uploaded to the channel very soon.
We paired that bait with the Great Lakes Finesse 3/16 Football Head as well as the Z-Man NedlockZ 1/6 oz jig head and had some incredible success. We also mixed in the Beast Coast Open Water Sniper Jig and caught fish on the Booyah Flash Point jerkbait throughout the day.
We also started catching some fish on swimbaits today, which was really cool to see developing. We were throwing the Great Lakes Finesse Drop Minnow on a 1/4 oz jig head and getting some quality bites doing that as well.
We spent most of the day shallow covering water, but we also checked some deeper fish and caught a few offshore as well. Strong winds made boat control and fishing conditions tough at times, but we stayed after them and put together another really solid day on the St. Lawrence River.
To top it all off, we ended the evening catching a pile of perch for dinner.
