Description

Indigo is an ancient dye produced from plants in the Indigofera genus. It has been used to dye textiles for thousands of years in Central America, the Middle East, India, and Japan. It was also used in paintings by the ancient Greeks and Romans, who imported it from India and it was used by European artists as a pigment throughout the Middle Ages and Early Modern era. Today, the colour is replicated with modern pigments.
