If there were no slave ships, where are the ships that brought White people to America?
In this video, we examine a question that frequently appears in conversations about the transatlantic slave trade, American history, immigration and the origins of different communities in the United States.
European settlers, indentured servants and voluntary immigrants crossed the Atlantic through documented migration routes, while millions of Africans were forcibly transported through the transatlantic slave trade under an entirely different system. The fact that every individual ship has not survived does not erase the extensive historical record—including shipping manifests, port documents, insurance records, plantation records, court documents and firsthand accounts.
This discussion explores the difference between voluntary migration, colonial settlement, indentured servitude and racialized chattel slavery. It also asks why historical misinformation continues to spread online and why evidence-based conversations about slavery remain necessary.
The purpose of this conversation is not to silence questions, but to examine the historical evidence honestly and distinguish documented history from internet speculation.
