The heavily worn desert camouflage of the German Afrika Korps offers a fun painting and weathering opportunity, simulating hastily applied and improvised sand camouflage painted over Dunkelgrau. This improvised camouflage, applied to vehicles redeployed from Europe, would easily chip and wear, revealing the Dunkelgrau beneath and creating a strong contrast. The buildup of dust and sand in North Africa would help to blend the two together somewhat, creating an interesting result with depth and layers.
In today’s video, Manu Gil shows how to recreate this scheme on an Sd.Kfz. 223 armored car. Manu demonstrates the entire process from start to finish, including the application of primer, recreating the initial Dunkelgrau and worn sand camouflage, and then the buildup of successive layers of dust. For this, Manu combines ATOM acrylics, Heavy Chipping Fluid, and ATOM washable paints. Manu also demonstrates how various weathering products are used to create realistic effects, including enamels such as an enamel wash and Streaking Grime for DAK, alongside pigments, and water-based solutions such as the AMMO-exclusive Lock ‘N Load.

El camuflaje desértico muy desgastado del Afrika Korps alemán ofrece una interesante oportunidad de pintura y envejecido, simulando un camuflaje improvisado de arena aplicado apresuradamente sobre Dunkelgrau. Este camuflaje improvisado, aplicado a vehículos reutilizados desde Europa, se desconchaba y desgastaba fácilmente, revelando el Dunkelgrau debajo y creando un fuerte contraste. La acumulación de polvo y arena en el Norte de África ayudaba a integrar ambos colores en cierta medida, creando un resultado interesante con profundidad y múltiples capas.
En el vídeo de hoy, Manu Gil muestra cómo recrear este esquema en un vehículo blindado Sd.Kfz. 223 . Manu muestra todo el proceso de principio a fin, incluyendo la aplicación de la imprimación, la recreación del Dunkelgrau inicial y del camuflaje de arena desgastado, y posteriormente la acumulación de capas sucesivas de polvo. Para ello, Manu combina acrílicos ATOM, Heavy Chipping Fluid y pinturas lavables ATOM. Manu también muestra cómo utilizar diversos productos de envejecido para crear efectos realistas, incluyendo esmaltes como un lavado esmalte y Streaking Grime for DAK, junto con pigmentos y productos a base de agua como el Lock ‘N Load exclusivo de AMMO.
