Welcome back! Today we are looking at another incredibly fun and highly requested hidden feature: how to enable the Pet Mode easter egg in Google Colab. If you spend hours writing python scripts, data pipelines, or machine learning models, your screen can feel a bit lifeless. The Colab developers included a brilliant hidden setting that lets virtual pets walk back and forth across the top of your coding workspace.
In this quick video, I will show you exactly how to unlock Corgi mode, Kitty mode, and even Crab mode. It is a fantastic way to add a bit of joy and entertainment to those long, intensive coding sessions.
To activate these virtual pets, look at the top right of your Google Colab interface and click on the gear icon to open your Settings menu. In the vertical menu on the left side, click on the Miscellaneous tab. Here, you will see checkbox options specifically labeled Corgi mode, Kitty mode, and Crab mode. Simply check the boxes for the animals you want to see. You can enable just one, or you can check all of them at the same time for maximum fun.
Once you click save, close the settings menu. Within a few seconds, you will see animated dogs, cats, or crabs casually strolling across the top toolbar of your notebook!
