In this adventure, I head deep into Joshua Tree National Park for a solo overnight backpacking trip in search of the perfect high-desert campsite.
The hike begins on the Maze Loop Trail, weaving through Joshua Tree’s iconic rock formations and rugged desert terrain. From there, I climb higher onto the North View Trail, gaining elevation and eventually finding an exposed ridgeline campsite perched high above the valley floor below. The views were absolutely unreal with expansive desert stretching in every direction.
But as I set up camp, powerful winds began rolling across the ridge, quickly turning a peaceful overnight into a test of judgment and adaptability. With daylight fading and rocky terrain limiting options, I made the decision to continue along the North View Trail, eventually reconnecting with the Maze Loop Trail to finish the hike out.
