President Donald Trump expects Britain’s new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to preserve American access to RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia as Washington expands its military campaign against Iran, according to The Telegraph. The bases provide the United States with long-range bomber access, refuelling, logistics and naval capabilities that would be difficult to replace quickly. Keir Starmer previously authorised their use for what his government described as “specific and limited defensive action,” while insisting Britain was not joining the broader US-Israeli offensive. As American operations grow, that distinction is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. Burnham also faces resistance from Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and Labour MPs opposed to deeper British involvement. Approving continued access risks turning British-controlled territory into a launchpad for an expanding war. Refusing could provoke an immediate confrontation with a US president who increasingly treats allied compliance as a test of loyalty. Watch.
