Description
This is a full modern hard rock blues guitar solo played over a A minor backing track, combining expressive phrasing, pentatonic ideas, and Dorian sounds with melodic changes.
The solo primarily in A minor, uses a mixture of minor pentatonic (A C D E G) and Dorian (A B C D E F# G), regularly adding the flat 5th (Eb/D#) to both scales. The only problem chord is the F5 in the turnaround, where I switch to F Lydian (F G A B C D E).
If you're looking for ideas to improve your lead playing, pay attention to the phrasing, bends, vibrato, legato, chromatic passing notes, and how the lines connect across the chord changes rather than just the scales being used.
This solo is taken from Luca Mantovanelli's new Soloing: Hard Rock Blues Masterclass for JTC Guitar, where he breaks down the techniques, phrasing concepts, licks, and complete solos used to build expressive, modern hard rock blues improvisations.
