Today we're unboxing the PC physical edition of Grand Theft Auto IV—a complete package featuring multiple game discs, a large Liberty City map, the iconic double-sided "Lollipop Girl" poster, a printed manual, and everything that made opening a new game feel like an event.
With Grand Theft Auto VI moving to a Code-in-Box release in many regions and Sony officially announcing that physical disc production for new PlayStation games will end in January 2028, moments like this feel even more meaningful.
As a game store, we understand and respect the decisions made by publishers and platform holders. The industry is evolving, and we'll continue to support our customers no matter how games are released.
But beyond the business side of things, it's hard not to feel a little sad watching physical media slowly become part of gaming history. There was something special about opening a box and discovering maps, manuals, posters, and multiple discs inside.
Then again... people once thought vinyl records were gone forever, yet today they're more popular than anyone expected. Maybe if enough gamers continue to appreciate and support physical games, they'll never completely disappear—or perhaps one day they'll make a comeback of their own.
Until then, we'll keep celebrating the physical editions that made collecting games such a memorable experience.
