Here is the complete original 1987 Charter Entertainment VHS release of the haunted house comedy feature "Ghost Fever" starring Sherman Hemsley (THE JEFFERSONS) and Luis Avalos (THE ELECTRIC COMPANY). This VHS features a preview of the Australian drama film "Burke and Wills."
The film itself is an edited version from the original theatrical cut, removing references to both marijuana and other questionable content. The film tells of two police officers from Georgia who are sent to a haunted plantation house to serve an eviction notice to the two women who occupy the dwelling. Humorous antics ensue involving the two bewildered policemen as the ghost of a former slave owner returns to the mansion to frighten the two officers and use them as parts in his zombie factory. Along the way, the two cops take part in a dance contest a game of billiards and a boxing match featuring world heavyweight champion "Smokin'" Joe Frazier.
"Ghost Fever," a troubled production released through Miramax Films, is one of the many films featuring the directorial credit of Alan Smithee, which was an alias used by film directors who had disowned their works. The film was only in release for a week before being dropped and was unceremoniously distributed to home video in October of 1987.
