The global humanitarian system is no longer fit for purpose.
This new CHH–Lancet Commission highlights that cuts in humanitarian aid are predicted to leave 64% of the 239 million people expected to need humanitarian assistance in 2026 without that support.
What needs be done to transform the humanitarian system?
In the Commission, authors call for four urgent actions:
🔹Invert the power; Put affected communities in charge of decisions and resources
🔹 End impunity; Attacks on civilians, health workers, and hospitals to have consequences
🔹 Fix the money; Funding to follow humanitarian need, not foreign policy
🔹 Uphold health for all; The right to equitable, safe health in conflict zones to be upheld
