Understanding how Kaposi’s sarcoma–associated herpesvirus (KSHV) traverses the nuclear environment is essential for revealing weak points in the viral life cycle, and this work offers a transformative look at that process. By identifying the nucleoplasmic reticulum (NR) as a functional conduit for primary envelopment and nuclear egress, the research updates long‑standing models of herpesvirus biology and uncovers new host–virus interfaces that may be exploited therapeutically. The ability to track individually labeled viral genomes in live cells deepens mechanistic insight into early lytic replication and supports the development of antiviral strategies designed to disrupt nuclear egress before virions reach the cytoplasm.
