After years in meticulous development with John Good and the Custom Shop team, SonicPly® is a first-of-its-kind hybrid shell that delivers the thick punch of Pure Maple with the dry sustain of Aluminum. Fusing all the best of these materials, the resulting sound is both precise and wide open.
Based on DW Pure Maple shells, SonicPly® 9-ply shells feature a core ply of aircraft-grade Aluminum sandwiched by plies of 100% American Maple for classic warmth with dry resonance. Compared to the neutral tone of a Pure Maple 333™ drum shell, SonicPly® shells produces a higher pitch, brighter tone, and shorter sustain.
10"-24" SonicPly® drums feature a 9-Ply 333™ Maple shell with a 1/36" Aluminum sheet replacing the middle ply. SonicPly® snare drums feature a 12-Ply Maple shell with two 1/36" Aluminum Sheets sandwiching the middle plies.
SonicPly® shells are now available on all Collector’s Series® offerings.
