This mix is rooted in a personal journey as much as a musical one. Silas (Eclecticist) is the son of a Rastafarian, and recently travelled to Shashamane, Ethiopia, the spiritual motherland of Rastafari, on something of a pilgrimage. Whilst he doesn’t claim Rastafari as his own faith, he's long been drawn to the devotional energy, philosophy and resistance embedded in the music it has inspired.
Leaning into dub versions of roots classics, this selection explores that spiritual weight through echo, space and rhythm, where the message is often felt as much as it is heard. Alongside foundational voices and productions from artists like Lee “Scratch” Perry and Rico Rodriguez, the mix drifts between meditative and militant, tracing a lineage of sound shaped by faith, exile and return.
Eclecticist a UK-based DJ, broadcaster and audio producer, working across specialist programming at BBC Radio 6 Music and hosting a weekly show on Rinse FM. His work often sits at the intersection of music, culture and storytelling, using vinyl as both a sonic and historical archive; this mix is an extension of that approach.
