Flowery’s story is built on a love so sincere that it becomes dangerous. He does not see himself as a tyrant, a manipulator, or a liar, but as a gardener trying to protect something fragile from ever hurting again. To him, grief is a weed, pain is a thorn, and reality itself is something that can be trimmed into a gentler shape if only his hands are steady enough.
At the heart of this tragedy is Asgore, remembered not as a king on a throne, but as a warm shadow that helped Flowery and his friends bloom. That memory becomes both their greatest comfort and their greatest chains. Flowery’s devotion turns into control because he cannot separate protection from possession, or mercy from denial. His perfect garden is beautiful because it is false, and terrifying because it was made with love.
The message is about the danger of trying to save someone by removing their freedom, their sorrow, and their right to face the truth. Flowery’s dream collapses because fantasy cannot survive contact with reality forever. In the end, his garden does not prove that he was heartless. It proves that even kindness can rot when it refuses to let anyone grow beyond the shape it chose for them.
Lyrics:
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
Seven petals in a borrowed glass,
Pink and gold from a wedding past.
Meant to wilt when the music died,
But he kept the sun on our fragile side.
So I learned to smile like a silver knife,
Trim the thorns from a broken life.
Old pal, breathe, let the garden glow,
I know where all of your sorrows go.
[Pre-Chorus]
Prophets point with porcelain hands,
But roots make laws in darker lands.
I can dress the grief, I can bless the lie,
Make a perfect blue out of a goodbye.
[Chorus 1]
Flowery
I’ll build him a world where the hurt can’t bloom,
Lock every shadow in a perfumed room.
Call it mercy, call it art,
I’ll prune the world to spare his heart.
Hope has a scent, and it smells like control,
Gold in the soil, rot in the soul.
Smile for the dream, don’t tear it apart,
I’ll prune the world to spare his heart.
[Verse 2]
Hatless lamb in a mirror’s glare,
Some faces need a little care.
Kris, Susie, hush, take your place in the scene,
No weeds in the frame of my evergreen.
I am not cruel, I am carefully kind,
A ribbon tied round a grieving mind.
If fate is a cage with a holy key,
Then I choose the lock, and the lock chooses me.
[Pre-Chorus]
All my friends in a chorus of stems,
Trust my bloom and my stratagems.
Let the kingdom turn, let the curtains rise,
I can fake the numbers till they pierce the skies.
[Chorus 2]
I’ll build him a world where the hurt can’t bloom,
Lock every shadow in a perfumed room.
Call it mercy, call it art,
I’ll prune the world to spare his heart.
Hope has a scent, and it smells like control,
Gold in the soil, rot in the soul.
Smile for the dream, don’t tear it apart,
I’ll prune the world to spare his heart.
[Instrumental Break]
[Interlude]
Heh...
Did you like the color?
Did you like the crown?
Did you like the garden
When the walls came down?
[Bridge]
Flowery
Then came the blade that would not applaud,
A knight with no need for my beautiful fraud.
Nine-nine-nine, I struck like the sun,
But painted power is paper when the real blade comes.
Asgore, I grew because you stayed,
I bloomed in the debt of the shade you made.
Now glass is cracking, roots run thin,
And all my heaven lets the monster in.
[Chorus 3]
I’ll build him a world where the hurt can’t bloom,
Lock every shadow in a perfumed room.
Call it mercy, call it art,
I’ll prune the world to spare his heart.
Hope has a scent, and it smells like control,
Gold in the soil, rot in the soul.
Smile for the dream, don’t tear it apart,
I’ll prune the world to spare his heart.
[Outro]
Thank you for watching our dream decay,
Petals like prayers in the ash-gray day.
Best friend, old pal, don’t look at me now,
I was only a flower that learned to bow.
