In 2011, a devastating earthquake and tsunami triggered one of the worst nuclear disasters in modern history. Entire towns were evacuated almost overnight, forcing families to leave behind homes, businesses, and entire communities.
More than a decade later, some areas have slowly been cleaned and reopened. But deep in the mountains, parts of the nuclear exclusion zone still remain frozen in time.
In this documentary, we travel into one of those forgotten places to explore two abandoned onsen hotels left behind inside the restricted zone. Inside, we discovered personal belongings, money, cars, and entire rooms preserved exactly as they were the day people were forced to leave.
But what makes this place even stranger is what has taken over since.
With humans gone for years, nature has reclaimed the land… and wildlife now roams freely through the empty buildings — including the infamous Japanese macaques, often referred to as the “radioactive monkeys.”
