Description
MYTH: You must cutoff your nails to play lute. I have heard this more times than I can count but it is a lie. Some lutenists played with nails and some did not (just like classical guitar). The general trend is that there seems to have been a general preference for playing without nails in the Renaissance but after 1600 we have several examples of famous composers (ex: Piccinini and Corbetta) who used nails.
