Just seconds into the welterweight match, McGregor attempted an aggressive leaping lead kick but landed awkwardly, resulting in an injury. Although the Irish superstar courageously tried to persevere, his severely compromised balance caused him to slip to the canvas multiple times. Holloway quickly capitalized on the opening, landing a flurry of strikes before the referee waved off the contest at just 1:09 of the very first round to award Holloway the technical knockout victory.
