Fifty-nine years after the passing of Africa's first Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Chief Albert Luthuli, a monumental campaign is under way to rewrite history books and restore his true legacy.
Today marks the 59th anniversary of his death, and the Luthuli Foundation and Royal Norwegian Embassy have officially declared 2027 as the 'Year of Luthuli' during a commemoration at his home in Groutville, near Kwadukuza in KwaZulu-Natal.
This follows a landmark High Court ruling which officially erased a decade-long apartheid lie surrounding the cause of his death.
