Description
Andy Burnham wants to end rough sleeping in the UK. Is it possible? Henry Riley looks at the numbers.
Mr Burnham has said his first instruction to his Government as Prime Minister will be to “end rough sleeping in our country”.
Just hours before formally becoming the UK’s new leader, he visited homelessness charity The Passage in Victoria, London.
Another pledge from the former Mayor of Greater Manchester, and departure from Starmerism, is to move politics away from Downing Street and into more local areas.
Burnham told the crowd at Downing Street: “We will take power out of here, and carry it into every postcode in the land, so that they can do more, and in doing more, build a new economy, where we put life’s essentials back under stronger public control to make them affordable to you again, reindustrialising Britain using public procurement to back British industry.”
